Iran using Dubai to smuggle nuclear components

06 Jun - Iran is using the Gulf port of Dubai to smuggle sophisticated electronic and computer equipment for its controversial uranium enrichment programme that are banned under United Nations sanctions. In the latest deal, an Iranian company associated with the regime's nuclear programme has acquired control systems from one of Germany's leading electronics manufacturers. The deal was negotiated with a prominent Dubai trading company, which then sold Iran a range of electronic equipment for use at its Natanz uranium enrichment facility.

Rights groups hold Geneva conference in support of rights of Ashraf residents

 On the sidelines of the fourteenth session of the UN Human Rights Council, a conference in support of the rights of the residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq was held at the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva.Camp Ashraf, Iraq, is home to some 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The conference was organized after invitations from the World Organization Against Torture, the Foundation of Danielle Mitterrand, former French First Lady and Director of France-Liberté, and MRAP (Movement Against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples).

NGOs seek UN protection for Iranian group in Iraq

Geneva, Jun. 04 - Several leading NGOs urged the United Nations on Thursday to protect 3,400 Iranian dissidents living in a camp 60km north-east of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The NGOs, including France Liberté, set up by France’s former First Lady Danielle Mitterrand, and the Movement Against Racism (MRAP), delivered a statement to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on the humanitarian situation in Camp Ashraf, where members of the main opposition group People’s Mojahedin (PMOI) reside.

"Death to Khamenei" chanted in central Tehran

Tehran, Jun. 04 - In apparent defiance of repressive measures put in place in the capital, some residents in Moniriyeh and Abu Saeed districts in central Tehran late on Friday chanted "Allah o-Akbar (God is the greatest)", "Death to Dictator", and "Death to Khamenei", referring to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, from rooftops.

Berlin, Moscow eye quick U.N. move on Iran sanctions

MESEBERG Germany (Reuters) - The leaders of Germany and Russia said on Saturday that world powers were on the verge of approving a new round of sanctions against Iran for its nuclear work.World powers are at loggerheads with Iran over its uranium enrichment program, which they believe is a cover to build a nuclear bomb. Tehran says its nuclear work is for the peaceful generation of electricity.

Dr. Rudi Vis, British MP and great friend of the Iranian Resistance, dies at 69

 We have heard with utmost regret and sadness that Dr. Rudi Vis, former member of the British Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), died on Sunday after losing a battle with cancer. He was considered by the Iranian Resistance to be a great long-time friend and supporter.The 69-year-old Labour MP for Finchley and Golders Green served in the House of Commons from 1997 to 2010. He spared no effort in contributing to a campaign to remove the main opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), from the list of terrorist organizations in Britain. Along with his parliamentary colleagues, he brought the campaign to victory against the religious and terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran.

Iran: Controlling universities through gender segregation

 Discussions around setting up gender-based universities, gender segregation in existing campuses and establishing a dress code for female students  continue within the regime.A member of the regime’s Majlis (Parliament) committee on national security recently spoke of "those working to create and promote moral corruption among university students", while the Ministry of Science has been showing increasing proclivity to grant permits for single gender universities.

Expelling refugees from Camp Ashraf violates international law

Geneva, June 3 (EFE) - Expelling Iranian refugees living in Camp Ashraf in northeastern Iraq for the past thirty years would constitute a violation of international law, according to Steven Schneebaum, Professor of International Law at the John Hopkins University."The direct or indirect expulsion of the inhabitants of the Camp Ashraf would violate several international provisions in force since 1950 and incorporated in several conventions," said the lawyer on the sidelines of the 14th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Iran: Widespread student arrests in fear of protests on anniversary of uprising

Fearing the students’ role in the June uprising, the mullahs’ regime has resorted to widespread and arbitrary arrests of students and increasing pressure on them. Benjamin Al-e Tayeb, a 20-year-old Electrical Engineering Student from Dezful University was arrested for unknown reasons and was transferred to the torture chambers of the regime’s intelligence headquarters in the city of Ahwaz, southwestern Iran.

Iran: Political prisoner on death row threatens to continue hunger strike until the end

 A political prisoner currently on death row has announced that he will continue a hunger strike he has launched since May 12 until his death.A judge had told Habibollah Golparipour that if he refuses to end his hunger strike, an execution sentence will immediately be handed down against him. In response, Golparipour had said, “I know I will be hanged soon. So, I want to willingly end my own life. I will do this in a way that after my death you will be left with nothing but shame.”

 In report to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression has highlighted instances of crimes against humanity committed by Iraqi forces in Camp Ashraf in July 2009, specifically the hostage taking of 36 residents.

US lawmaker urges Obama and Clinton to protect Ashraf residents

A member of the US House of Representatives has called on the American government to protect more than 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition residing in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, in the face of potential attacks by the Iranian regime and its Iraqi proxies.In statements published in the official Congressional Record, Ed Towns of New York notes, “The United States Government signed an agreement with each and every individual in that Camp to protect them against potential attacks and mistreatment from Iran or its proxies in Iraq.”

Iran Bars Music in Private Schools, May Impose University Code

 June 1 (Bloomberg) - Iran has barred private schools from teaching music, saying it clashes with the establishment’s Islamic values, following a push to enforce moral standards that may lead to a national dress code for university students.

“The use of musical instruments is against the principles of our value system,” Ali Bagherzadeh, head of the private- schools office in the Education Ministry, said in a phone interview from Tehran today. Iran’s 16,000 private schools have 1.1 million students, the Islamic Republic News Agency said.
